About

This blog is a culmination of two forever-bakers who have spent countless hours reading about, thinking about, and dreaming about baking delicious treats in our spare time. After taking a few cake decorating classes, our interest has soared to no end. While living and working in the same city has been a sweet treat in itself, a move across the state has spawned the desire to keep in touch by taking our love of baking and everything kitchen to the next level. So wipe your feet on the mat and stay awhile!

Wednesday Wishes: Solutions.com

I found my way to this website via pinterest, and I can't stop making shocked faces at every item they have on there!  You should seriously go take a look, they have some genius items on there to make your life a little bit easier.  Here are a couple of things that would be great as a gift for someone or for yourself!

<img src=http://image.normthompson.com/solutions/images/us/local/page_specific/productindex/new_bug.gif border=0><br> No more tedious scraping of blades as you mix the dough with this pastry blender.

See that little red tab on the blades of the pastry blender?  It moves from side to side cleaning off the blades for you!  Tell me you didn't just think, why didn't I think of that???

Keep the mess off the counter!
These fun little critters sit on the side of your pot and hold your spoon for you.  No more drippy counters and you get to save every last delicious drop.
<img src=http://image.normthompson.com/solutions/images/us/local/page_specific/productindex/new_bug.gif border=0><br> Now the perfect sushi roll is easy...takes less time, too.

I don't make a lot of sushi (really any), but if I did I'm pretty sure I'd want something like this to help me along.  This sushi roller is great for that sushi lover in your life!

Wednesday Wishes: Retro Baking

My mom recently gave me a box of old Christmas things to go through.  In it I found these little gems:

I'm not entirely sure what we used these adorable trees and little deer for, but I'm thinking they would look pretty darn cute atop a cupcake or two.  Lucky for all of us, Layer Cake Shop has these throw-back toppers and more.  Here are a few of my favorites:

These are a modern version of my trees above.  Incredible.

Here are those adorable deer.

And every holiday needs a snowman-topped treat.

This cupcake kit is simply charming.  Don't you want little pilgrims at your table?

This cakelet pan is perfect for making bite-sized treats.

Wednesday Wishes: Crate & Barrel Thanksgiving

Crate & Barrel has their Thanksgiving line of decorations, bakeware, tableware, etc etc etc out and I am SO excited!!  While I have an entire closet devoted to Christmas decorations, I don't think I own a single piece for Thanksgiving.  Here are a couple of knick-knacks off their website to get me started.
PumpkinWhoopiePiePanLLF11
This whoopie pie pan just scream for pumpkin pie spice and a thick cream cheese filling.
PumpkinCvrdCasseroleLLF11

How great would this cookware be for an oven to table dish?  You don't even have to move it to a serving bowl!
PumpkinPestoF11
I realize this isn't a decoration, but this Sweet Pumpkin Pesto definitely says fall to me.  It makes me want to curl up with a warm bowl of ravioli by a fire while it's snowing outside (in my imaginary dream I apparently do not live in Texas)

Wednesday Wishes: Kitchen Art

Here are a few kitchen inspired art pieces to perk up your kitchen.  These three pieces would look great in any kitchen, no matter the look you're going for.  Enjoy!

This first piece is an ode to cheese....one of my favorite things on this planet.

I love everything about these oversized utensils.
And this is just stinkin' cute.  End of story.

Wednesday Wishes: Etsy

Etsy might be one of my favorite places online.  There are always super unique gifts on there, and you can always find whatever it is you're looking for, even if that something is a handbag made out of a kitty litter bag.  We've linked to etsy's website a couple of times, but here are a few of the latest things I've found on there.

AHeirloom's Texas Cutting Board

This cutting board can come in the shape of any state you want, as a proud Texan and as the daughter of proud Texans, I actually bought this for my mom for Christmas and can attest to how great it is in person.

Pink Heart - Fused Glass Trinket Dish - Spoon Rest

This spoon rest can add  just a little dash of cuteness in your kitchen.

Happy Cupcakes set of two potholders

Who doesn't want a set up happy cupcake potholders in their kitchen???

Wednesday Wishes: Tea

I've been enjoying a spot of tea here and there lately.  And with fall fast approaching, I think tea is becoming more and more necessary, even though it won't get cold here in Texas until November (or so we hope).  I am a die-hard coffee drinker, but there is something just a little more cozy about tea.  Here are a few things any tea drinker must have:

This is perfect for squeezing those tea bags.  No more tea dripping down your hands!

Tea Time Lemon Honey: this just sounds delicious.

These teapots are perfect for loose tea.  Not to mention pretty.

Wednesday Wishes: World Market

I'm going to be real honest, I had no idea how great World Market was.  I was pretty convinced that it sold foreign foods and that was it.  However, my sister-in-law and brother brought us here on a whim to look at some things and I couldn't believe all of the great and cheap stuff in there!  If you're ever looking for a fun gift for someone World Market is definitely the place to go.  Below are a few of the great kitchen items they have on their website.

Summer Goddess Party Tub Collection | World Market
How cute is this drink tub?  Perfect for when it gets below 100 degrees and you and your guests don't feel like they're going to melt away.

Green Glass Kitchen Accessories | World Market

These little canisters could have tons of uses in the kitchen and with that green glass they're pretty enough to display on the countertops!

Tamersa Serving Bowl | World Market

I love the colors in this bowl, so bright and colorful, a great piece for serving food to guests.

Wednesday Wishes: IKEA

Let me count the ways that I love IKEA.

1) Cheap
2) Modern
3) Fun sounding product names
4) Did I already mention cheap??

Below are a couple of goodies IKEA has for the kitchen.

TRIPP Storage tin with lid, set of 3, white, black Length: 5 " Width: 3 " Height: 7 " Length: 12 cm Width: 8 cm Height: 18 cm
First up are these super cute tin containers called Tripp storage tin.  Since they're black and white they could go with any decor, and since they're tin you could even use them as gift containers for the treats you bake up.
SOCKERKAKA Baking mat and knife, light blue
Next up is this Sockerkaka baking mat (I swear I didn't make that up).  Look at the fun shapes and drawings on it!  Would be great for anyone trying to get their kids involved in baking.
SLIPAD Knife block with 5 knives, multicolor Length: 11 " Width: 4 " Height: 11 " Length: 28 cm Width: 9 cm Height: 28 cm
Lastly, is this super colorful super fun Slipad Knife block.  With all those colors it's like a little piece of art in your kitchen, a very sharp and dangerous piece of art.

Wednesday Wishes: Back to School

Well my friends, summer is almost over.  You just can't deny it.  Schoooool is almost here.  Today I'm bringing you a few must haves to send your kids off right.  All of these come from one of my favorite places on earth, The Container Store.  They're having a sale, by the way.  Get over there!

These are too cute.  Perfect for your high schooler or for yourself at work.

These are fabulous, I use them in real life.  Forget those old plastic baggies.

These clever bottles have a filter built in!

Everybody needs a good salt and pepper shaker, so why not have a little fun with such a necessary kitchen accessory.  These are a couple I found online to shake up any kitchen decor.

These are customizable with any initial and if you look around the Dabney Lee Stationary brand on Saks Fifth Avenue has a ton of colors to compliment any kitchen.

Wednesday Wishes: Cookbooks

Here are a few cookbooks I wish I had on my shelf.  My overly-stuffed, can't fit one more thing on it, cookbook shelf.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home - I've heard rave reviews about this Columbus area ice cream shop.  And now I want this book!

I realize this book had its blog hay-day about 2 years ago, but I still want it.

And if I had to pick just one of these books to buy, it would be this one.  I've seen the cream-filled donuts that came out of this masterpiece, and I can't stop thinking about them!

Wednesday Wishes: Anthropologie

Anthropologie is the kind of website that  I'd like to buy every single article of clothing, home goods, and accessories.  If only we didn't have to pay for food and utilities.....  Anthropologie has an incredible kitchen and home accessories section, below are a few of my favorite things right now.

These teacups are so sweet and colorful they'll brighten anybody's day.

Don't look at the price of this lemonade jug before you buy it.  Just tell yourself that you'll use it EVERY day and it'll be totally worth it.  Or at least once for a party, right?

Finally, Anthropologie has a wide collection of adorable aprons.  Is it bad that I want to wear this one out like a dress?  Might have to figure out that whole open-back situation..

Wednesday Wishes: Beat the heat, popsicle style

Ladies and gentlemen, this heat isn't going anywhere.  At least not down here in southeast Texas.  Grab everything you can - a personal fan, a sweat band, and a POPSICLE.  Here are a few fun pop-licious products to help you out.

This Zoku popsicle maker freezes your treats in MINUTES!

This is just plain cute.  Your pops can look like sailboats.

And this is just the age old popsicle maker.  An oldie but a goodie.

Wednesday Wishes: Crate & Barrel Outlet

Dear readers, please prepare yourself for a little bit of rejoicing..... Crate & Barrel has an outlet store...online!  So you can sit at your computer and get all kinds of discounts without anyone judging you for the giant rip in the pajama pants you're wearing.  They have all kinds of random pieces in their oulet store, but the couple of products I picked out for this week are perfect for a fourth of July bbq.

First up is this handy mini burger press.  Great for cranking out those sliders that everybody loves.  Only 9 bucks!

Next, is this condiment tray.  Bright yellow so the guests can't miss the collection of ketchup, mustard, and relish for their dogs.  This tray comes in at only 5 bucks, and who can put a price on picnic organization???
Finally, are the condiment bottles to go in that handy dandy tray.  These have a retro diner feel and are color-coordinated to ward off any ketchup/mustard disasters. Each bottle comes in at just 2 dollars a piece!

Hope these items help you have a thrifty and tasty fourth of July!
